Goblins or Orcs or as elves call them Yrch, were mockeries of the Children of luvatar and are creations perverted by <link="tech:Age 1 Melkor">Melkor</link>. In the Sindarin tonque they were also called Glamhoth - host of tumult.

The name Snaka is a describtion of "small" Goblins and Shagrat were Goblims with a bigger stature.

The Orcs of Saruman, the Uruk Hai were heavier in build, swart with big hands and legs and slant-eyed, they used broad-bladed swords and bows in length and shape as Men. There shields bore a white hand in a black field and in front of there helm was a white S-rune.

The origin of Orcs have always been a matter of debate. Orcs were slaves of <link="tech:Age 1 Melkor">Melkor</link> and <link="tech:Age 4 Sauron">Sauron</link> and have been called Melkorohni; the Children of Melkor but they are not his children but corrupted Children of Ilvatar. Ilvatar was the only who could give life. <link="tech:Age 1 Aule">Aul</link> desired so greatly to see the firstborn children and to love and teach them that he could not await there coming and so he devised the <link="topic:Dwarves">Dwarves</link> but when they were full wrought and luvatar discovered what he had done he was told and shown that giving life was beyond his power and authority and they could only be puppet acting only at his expressive command "For you have from me as a gift your own being only and no more; and therefore the creatures of your hand and mind can live only by that being, moving when you think so and if your thought are elsewere; standing idle". The gift of Being was given to all the spirits of luvatar but not more, none of them was able to put the imperishable fire into there own creations and neither was Melkor.

While luvatar was the only to give life, never the less it was by the malice of Melkor the Orcs arose and they were meant to be mockeries of the Children of luvatar, The debate has been about from whom they original derive ; The Elves or Humans, and how they could have life on there own, act an behave without the will, thought and eye of Melkor upon them all the time. For they did act on there own when not directly guided.

The Orcs fought among themselves, Orcs killing Orcs, Orcs eating Orcs, and if their master was far away they could and did sometimes neglect his commands. Surely not something <link="tech:Age 1 Melkor">Melkor</link> or <link="tech:Age 4 Sauron">Sauron</link> could approve, he would have better use of them united all the time against Elves and Men and they would not be able to act against his will if not they were beings with own mind and will - though dominated by evil. Orcs were living creatures capable of learning speech, craft and in some way organisation. The Orcs also spoke different languages even the languages had arised from the same basic tongue.

The Orcs were held enthralled by the will of their Master, bred and raised and taught to hate <link="topic:Elves">Elves</link> and <link="topic:Men">Men</link> who they hated as mostly because they did not share their suffering, but there can be no doubt that the Orcs hated their Master even more.
